Joe Calvin Bass, 94, of Thackerville passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 in Ardmore. Joe was born June 16, 1926 in Vernon, Texas to Hubert and Mary Bass. He had one brother and one sister.
The family moved to Roanoke, Texas when he was 10. Joe was baptized at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Grapevine, Texas by Brother Ed Vinson. He joined the Army and served in Alaska after completing basic training.
He received an honorable discharge. Afterwards, Joe went into farming with his father and brother, Joe married Beulah Roberts on July 27, 1962 at Florence Holiness Church in Keller, Texas.
After farming in the Roanoke area for many years, Joe and Beulah moved to Thackerville where they lived until Beulah’s death in 2011. Joe moved to the Oklahoma Veterans Center in 2018.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marvin Ray Bass; and sister, Mary Evelyn Sanderson.
Survivors include nephews, Robert and Craig Sanderson, cousins, and a lifetime family friend, Billye Jo Rains.
Joe was laid to rest beside Beulah at the Parker Cemetery, Grapevine at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 8.
