Isidor Aubie Basler

November 14, 1918 ~ December 22, 2005

Isidor Aubie Basler, 87, passed away at his home on December 22, 2005 after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of Christ with interment following in the Grandview Cemetery, Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Isidor Aubie Basler was born November 14, 1918.

He was the son of Joseph Isidor "Dorie" and Estell Adkisson Basler of Leedey, Oklahoma.

As a small boy he was nicknamed "Goob" because he loved to eat the little goober peanuts growing on the family farm.

Isidor's mother passed away when he was nine years old "Dorie" became both father and mother to Isidor and his eight brothers and sisters. He did not remarry until all his family had married and left home.

His mother and father, brothers Willie, Dempsie, Marvin, Willard and sister Esther preceded Isidor in death.

Willard was killed while on active duty in Germany during World War II.

Isidor served his country five years during World War II. After serving 3 years in Panama he was released to work in a copper mine in Miami, Arizona. Subsequently he was recalled and spent 2 years in Europe primarily in France and Germany. Much of this time was spent laying communication lines between forward positions and artillery units. After peace was declared, Isidor was honorably discharged 1945.

In 1947 he married Farice Ferrell from his hometown of Leedey, Oklahoma.

They farmed in the Moorewood community of Leedey, Oklahoma until 1955 when their son's asthma necessitated leaving the farm.

Always handy with wood, Isidor went into the carpentry trade and ended up in the Mojave Desert of California. He enjoyed his occupation and was employed as a finish carpenter on homes of several well-known personalities among them Ray Milland, Fred Astaire and Walter Brennan.

After retiring in 1984, Isidor and Farice moved to Bonners Ferry to be near their children.

Isidor recognized the importance of God, and the value of allowing God to participate in his life. He was a student of God's word and an active member of the Church of Christ.

He was instrumental in the construction of two church buildings, one in Quartz Hill, California and one in Bonner Ferry, Idaho.

In addition to Farices, his wife of 58 years, Isidor leaves a daughter, Peggy and son-in-law Dale Severson of Spokane, Washington; son Tommy and daughter-in-law Rita Basler of Bonners Ferry; his grandchildren Jeremy Gwin, Aaron Gwin, Jacob Gwin and Auby Basler; as well as two great grandchildren Alexandra and Grace Gwin. He also leaves two sisters, Mary Kauk of Yuba City, California; Frances Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and one brother, Oy Basler of Leedey, Oklahoma.
