Toni Kay (Bookout) Bascom

Toni Kay (Bookout) Bascom
February 13, 1959. ~ August 3, 2023

Toni Kay (Bookout) Bascom passed to the Heavens to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 3, 2023.

To start her journey, here is a quote she often referred to, "There are two types of friends in this world – the ones that keep you out of jail and the ones sitting in jail next to you saying, 'That sure was fun, wasn't it?'" If you knew Toni, then you know exactly which friend she was.

Toni's life began when she was born in Hobbs, New Mexico, on February 13, 1959. Growing up, she resided in several states. She graduated from Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, Tennessee.

Toni would often share exhilarating stories of being in her youth during the '60s and '70's, many of which are not allowed to be shared publicly (although, she would). Toni's most prized possession was always family. In the fall of 1981, she started her very own, bringing the first of three children into the world.

Traversing across the globe with children in tow, the family moved to and from Oklahoma, Virginia, and even spent two separate military tours in Germany. Home, though, had always been the Midwest.

Upon returning to Oklahoma in the summer of 1992, she pursued a new endeavor. Toni's calling in life was to be an educator, and in 1996, her dreams became a reality after she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma.

Toni taught in several schools across Oklahoma, but her first post at Freedom Public Schools always held a special place in her heart. Her passion to educate was endearing, and she inspired countless lives through her work until retirement in 2017. Every student who received instruction on Toni's watch remembers her exuberant personality, which made learning fun. Toni was the brightest light in every room; always the life of the party; and every day was her celebration.

Her passions beyond family and education were numerous, but many would recount her artistic abilities as being "uncanny." She could draw, paint, craft and create, but Toni's most famous talent was her keen eye for home décor. Her ability to turn houses into elegant homes with warmth and ambiance was second to none.

Above all else, Toni enjoyed spoiling her grandbabies. She took great pride in being the "fun" grandma. There was always a glimmer in her eye at Christmas as she would often compete with the parents and Santa for the best gift given. She had a giving soul, and many have been blessed by her generous deeds without even knowing where they came from. She will be dearly missed.

Toni is preceded in death by her husband, Daryle Bascom Sr.; father and mother, Ed and Charlene Bookout; and brother, Jeff Bookout.

She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Schroeder and husband Jesse (of Freedom), son, Aaron Ghaemi and wife Jacqui (of Stillwater); daughter Ashton Bellows and husband Dave (of Sherman, Texas); grandchildren Brayden, Parker and Mia Schroeder; Coy and Delilah Ghaemi; Elliott and Miles Bellows; and her dog, Izzy B.

A celebration of her life was held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Cravens Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas. It was as unconventional as she was. She requested we have a party, and that is exactly what we did!

In lieu of flowers, Toni would like for donations to be made to charitable organizations such as Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
