Mava Hawkins Bartron, a resident of Golden Oaks Village in Enid since 1998, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007. She was 95 years young.
Mava was born in Helena to John William and Lola Hawkins on July 16, 1912. In her late teens she moved to Illinois, then Indiana and eventually made her home in Glendale, Calif.
An energetic woman, Mava was very involved in many civic and religious organizations. She was instrumental in the development, building and growing of the Glendale Church of the Brethren.
Mava is survived by her two beautiful sisters, Ruth McCollum of Helena and Bessie Welch of Enid; her three daughters, Betty Joyce Froli, Patsy Panek, Joanne Versio; numerous cousins, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will so miss their "Grammie."
Mava was preceded in death by her husband, Luther "Bart," and her daughter, Rowena Slayback.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at Golden Oaks Village Chapel. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Helena.
Her granddaughter wrote, "Grammie, your strength, grace, compassion, love of God, and care for others, especially your family, will never be forgotten. We will hold you close to our hearts and strive to follow in your footsteps. We know you are at peace in heaven and getting things "ship-shape" for when we join you. Love you always!"
