Sheila Denise Bartels died suddenly November 21, 2012 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Sheila was born in Borger, Texas on September 30, 1957 to Douglas and Bobby Boone. The family moved to Hollis, Ok when Sheila was in second grade. Sheila loved living in the same town with her grandparents, especially her granny, Eva Penington. They had a special bond.
Sheila graduated from Hollis High School in 1975. She loved her classmates and had lifelong friendships with many of them.
Sheila graduated with her Associates’ degree in nursing. She found her calling while working as a registered nurse at Health for Friends and Better Babies of Norman. Her work with underserved mothers and babies was her passion. She was an excellent teacher and had a positive impact on many.
She married David Howard in 1982 in Childress, Texas. They made their home in Hollis. David died in 1983. Sheila then moved to Norman, Oklahoma where she met and married Floyd (Skeeter) Bartels in 1985. Their son Crosby was born in Norman.
Sheila loved music and was a forever hippie. Her collection of concert ticket stubs and tie-dyed t-shirts is both impressive and enviable. She was a regular at Norman’s Music Festivals and she never missed Jazz in June.
Sheila’s legacy was her role as a mother. She cherished her son Crosby and was devoted to him. Not only was she a kind, loving, wonderful mother to him, but she was also a mother to many others. Amy, Alex and Katie could always count on Sheila to be there with a kind word and nonjudgmental advice. Sheila welcomed all and loved everyone.
Sheila is survived by her son Crosby Bartels and girlfriend Amy Shoopman of the home; parents, Douglas and Bobby Boone, Hollis, OK; one sister Trish Bartlett and partner Patty Castillo, Tulsa, OK; two nephews, Scott Bartlett and Jaxon Bartlett Castillo, Tulsa. Her beloved dog, Bailey, who was her constant companion, also survives her. Sheila also has a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her husband David Howard, Walter Deskins, love of her life, and her grandparents, Sam and Eva Penington and Buffalo and Fay Boone.
Memorial services for Sheila Bartels will be at 2 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2012, at the Church of Christ in Hollis, Oklahoma with Ed Stegall officiating. Services are under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
