Tommie Jean (LaMunyon) Simpkins Barnett

April 8, 1935 ~ Sept. 7, 2007

A memorial service for Tommie Jean Simpkins Barnett, 72, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Polly Young will officiate. A private family burial will be at a later date.

She was born April 8, 1935, in Birmingham, Ala., to Ollie and Catherine Beadles LaMunyon, and died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, in St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

She lived in Alva and on the family farm in Cleo Springs and Carmen. She started her career in health care as a nurse aide at the age of 15 and worked until retir-ing in 1997. She married Wilbur John Simpkins in 1958 in Alva. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Catherine "Cathy" Springer of Owasso, Peggy Wentworth of Enid and Thelma Lucas of Fairview; two brothers, Larry LaMunyon of Rapid City, S.D., and Billy Beadles of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Bessie Lucas of Enid; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation heart division or American Cancer Society.
