The Memorial service for James Barnes, 74, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Friday July 28, 2017, in the Garland Road Nursing Home.
Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
James was born Oct. 7, 1942, to Jerome and Marinda Barnes, and passed July 19, 2017, in Enid, Oklahoma.
Surviving are his cousins, and beloved caretakers and fellow residents of Garland Road Nursing Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Memorial service for James Barnes, 74, of Enid, will be 2:00 P.M. Friday July 28, 2017 in the Garland Road Nursing Home with Pastor Terry Colvin officiating Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
James L. Barnes was born October 7, 1942 in Alva, Oklahoma. His parents, Jerome and Marinda Barnes raised James as an only child.
He grew up with a Nazarene Church background and enjoyed gospel and country western music. He enjoyed watching western shows and movies on television. He was an avid reader of Zane Grey and Louis Lamour westerns. In addition, he enjoyed reading mystery magazines, and the daily newspaper.
He attended school until the 9th grade. It was while he was in school he learned to play the trumpet. He also enjoyed stamp collecting, playing gin rummy, and dominoes.
On August 12, 1999, James made his home at Highland Park Manor Nursing Center, later renamed Garland Road Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Prior to this time, he had lived at home with his mother and uncle. During his early days at Highland Park, "Uncle Johnny" visited regularly and was supportive of anything he needed. Later, it was his cousin, Clara Belle and her husband, Bois Farrington, that would visit and take James out to eat on his birthdays. They would also be his guests at the November Family Dinners held each year at Highland Park.
It was in March 2006 and February 2010 that James represented the facility as the Resident of the Month.
When the Southwest Health Care Corporation determined to build a new facility, and relocate to the Garland Road address, James was one of those chosen to help cut the ribbon and shovel some of the dirt at the Ground-Breaking Ceremony, as he was then the resident with the earliest admission at Highland Park/Garland Road Nursing & Rehab Center.
Residents and staff came to know James to be a quiet individual but later, a little more talkative. He would frequently help those residents who needed their wheelchair to be pushed from one place to another. He was a regular attendant at Bingo activities, parties, music programs, dominoes, scavenger hunts, special events, and church services. While at Highland Park Manor, he was introduced to Wii games, and became a high scorer at Bowling.
Anybody that knew James L. Barnes, knew that he enjoyed soda pop, candy bars, plain potato chips, hamburgers, and fresh popped popcorn.
We, the staff, administration, and residents of Garland Road Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will deeply feel his absence.
