Kenneth Darrell Barker passed from this life on January 11, 2019 at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 26 days. Kenneth was born August 16, 1936 in Granite, OK to his parents Kenneth and Ernestine (Blewett) Barker.
Kenneth was a longtime faithful member of Sayre First Baptist Church. He served as song leader at many churches during his lifetime. Kenneth received his master’s degree in education at a young age, teaching was his passion. He loved his students dearly. The last season of his life was spent teaching in Sayre, OK in the special education department of the elementary school.
He was a true outdoors man. He had many hobbies which included fishing, hunting and woodworking. In 1981 Kenneth and his wife Shirley started Custom Pest Control which is still in operation today. Many hours were spent serving the Sayre, Beckham County with their spraying needs. Hard work and a great work ethic was Kenneth’s passion.
Although Kenneth is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will be kept alive though the family and friends he leaves behind which includes 1 son; Ken and wife Mary Barker of Elk City, OK, 1 daughter; Karen and husband Kenny Kennedy of Cordell, OK, grandchildren; Kenneth Barker of Pikesville, NC, Filip Barker of Virginia Beach, VA, Reanna Thurman of OKC, Dustin Rouse of Cordell, OK, Chelsea Rouse of Cordell, OK, Layne Fite of Cordell, OK, James Howerton of Cordell, OK, Derek Howerton of Cordell, OK, Anna Johnson of San Antonio, TX, Meranda Adames of Elk City, OK, Jessica Abner of San Antonio, TX, 11 great grandchildren and a host of longtime friends, neighbors and church family.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Shirley Barker, sister; Mary and brother in law Rex Shepherd, daughter; Kimberly Howerton, granddaughter; Shelby Fite and grandson; Joel Adames.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Rose Chapel, Sayre with Pastor Peter Parker officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, January 14, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Rose Chapel, Sayre.
