Viola Grace (Lewis) Banes, age 89, died April 8, 2016, at her home on Possum Kingdom Lake TX.
Viola was born October 5, 1926 to Charles and Susie Belle (Wiseley) Lewis in Red Rock OK. She married Samuel C. Banes, Sr. on October 20, 1945. They had six children.
Viola pursued a career in the medical field. She worked as a nurse's aide at North Plains Hospital in Borger TX. When her husband was transferred to Bartlesville OK by Phillips Petroleum Company in 1965, Viola continued her career at Memorial Hospital working as an operating room technician. She enjoyed a long career as a member of the medical community in Bartlesville. In 2001, Viola moved to Possum Kingdom Lake where she has lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Kevin VanDuser.
Viola's passions were her love for Christ, her family and her church. She was an active member of Community Church of Possum Kingdom Lake where she regularly taught Sunday school and played the piano and organ. She worked in Vacation Bible School nearly every summer and was active in her church's blanket ministry. She loved serving the Lord and spending time with her family.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband, the late Samuel Clifford Banes, Sr.
She is survived by her children: Fred and Judith Banes, Dallas TX; Bob and Gayla Banes, Wichita KS; Sue Banes Gan, Claremore OK; Kay and Kevin VanDuser, Possum Kingdom Lake TX; Karen and Ken Duncan, Bartlesville OK; and Samuel C. Banes, Jr., Collinsville OK. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.
A Memorial Service will be held at Community Church of PK Lake at 11:00 am, Friday, April 15, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Church of PK Lake.
