William Monroe Ballard

February 9, 1872 ~ April 7, 1938

William Monroe Ballard was born near Weaublew, Missouri, in St. Clair County, February 9, 1872, and departed this life April 7, 1938 at the age of 66 years, one month and 29 days at the Musick Hospital in Elk City, Oklahoma.

He left Missouri when a young man and came to Lincoln County, Oklahoma, where he met and was united in marriage to Lillie Farnsworth in 1901. To this union were born six children, of which an infant preceded him in death.

In the spring of 1905 he moved to his homestead near Old Rankin where he resumed his school teaching profession which he started when he was 18 years of age and continued every year until the fall of 1919 when he moved with his family to Cheyenne where he engaged in the lumber business.

He professed Christ at an early age but as he never lived where there was a Baptist Church he did not unite with the church until September 3, 1922, and at a later date he was ordained as a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Cheyenne and has lived faithful to his belief the remainder of his life.

He was a good neighbor, loving husband and kind father.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife and five children. Mrs. Chesner Tidwell, Royal Ballard, Joe Ballard of Cheyenne, Dwight Ballard of Taft, Texas, Kenneth Ballard of Donna, Texas, all of whom were present. He also leaves three brothers, one sister and three granddaughters, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Daddy from our midst is gone - His voice that we loved is stilled - The place made vacant in our hearts - Can never more be filled.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3:00 o'clock at the First Baptist Church, Cheyenne, with Rev. J. W. Carleton in charge, assisted by Rev. Graham, Wright and Gilpatrick. The Tunnard Funeral Home were in charge of the Funeral arrangements.

William M. Ballard, prominent business man of Cheyenne, died in an Elk City hospital about noon Thursday, April 7th, 1938 after a serious illness of several weeks.

Mr. Ballard was stricken with a serious cold which terminated in pneumonia. He survived the pneumonia and returned to his home last week.

He developed a serious gall bladder trouble, which necessitated an operation.

Realizing his weakened condition, he was conscious of the fact that he probably could not survive, so he spent as much time as possible at home in an effort to get his affairs in the best shape possible should he not be able to successfully withstand the operation that was necessary.

When he returned to the hospital it was found that he had suffered a ruptured gall bladder and his condition was critical.

He passed away at an Elk City hospital Thursday afternoon.
