Evalyn Lucille (Campbell) Baldwin

Evalyn Lucille (Campbell) Baldwin
October 11, 1931 ~ January 31, 2021

Evalyn Lucille Baldwin died Sunday, January 31 from complications of COVID-19. Evalyn was born October 11, 1931 in Springfield, Illinois to John Eugene “Gene” and Lucille Campbell.

After graduating from Springfield High School, Evalyn attended Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. While at Millikin she met the love of her life, Roger Baldwin. They married on September 11, 1954 while attending Michigan State University where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Education in 1955. She taught first and second grade in East Lansing while Roger completed his Ph.D. in chemistry. Evalyn and Roger moved to Whittier, California in 1959, the same year they welcomed their first daughter, Cheryl. Their second daughter, Lynne, was born in Whittier in 1967. The family relocated to Warr Acres, Oklahoma in March 1970 where Evalyn was active in her daughters’ school and extracurricular activities, as well as the Cookie Jar Investment Club and the TriDelta alumni organization. Evalyn and Roger were members of Church of the Servant for more than 50 years, participating in Sunday School classes and church events. Attending monthly travel lectures at Michigan State ignited their love of travel, and Evalyn and Roger enjoyed trips that took them from Germany to Scotland to Alaska. However, they both especially loved visiting Crested Butte, Colorado and Maui, Hawaii. In 2018, Evalyn and Roger moved to the Touchmark retirement community in Edmond, Oklahoma and continued enjoying life until the COVID pandemic intruded on their world.

Evalyn is survived by her husband of 66 years, Roger; daughter Cheryl Baldwin Frech and husband Roger Frech; daughter Lynne Baldwin Matzell and husband Tim Matzell; granddaughters Alison and Emily Frech, and fiancé Sergio Preciado; grandsons Jansen and Ian West Matzell; niece Leslie Baldwin and husband Ken Eng; and numerous other friends and relatives.

Many thanks to the COVID ICU staff at OU Edmond Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Evalyn’s name to the Salvation Army.
