Norma Jean Baker

Norma Jean Baker
Feb. 17, 1938 ~ July 11, 2018

Norma Jean Baker, 80, longtime resident of Duncan, Oklahoma, passed away from a sudden illness on July 11, 2018, at her home in Lake City, Colorado.

Norma was born on Feb. 17, 1938, in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of the late Moody Thompson and Doris Claussen Vickers.

Norma graduated from Enid High School and attended Oklahoma State University. She married the love of her life Eugene Earl Baker in 1957.

While raising two children, she continued her education and received a bachelor of nursing degree from Cameron University in 1976.

As an accomplished registered nurse, Norma provided the Duncan community with years of selfless service to countless patients and others in need. Her professional dedication led to her working with Duncan's Chisholm Trail Hospice as a hospice nurse for a number of years.

God gave Norma the gift of healing and comfort, which she shared with others as a registered nurse until her retirement in 1993. Norma was also a very dedicated caregiver to her husband Gene for many years, after he suffered a devastating stroke.

Norma and Gene enjoyed traveling to many islands in the Caribbean; however, the place they loved the most was the magnificent mountains of Lake City, Colorado, where they built a beautiful second home for their retirement.

She is survived by her two children: Mark Baker and his wife Jean, and Sherri Baker Wilson and her husband Tom; four grandchildren: Timothy Baker and his wife Rachel, Daniel Baker, Laura Wilson, and Robert Wilson; and two great-grandchildren: Owen Baker and Luke Baker, all in the Dallas-Fort Worth area; a special cousin: Claudette Burch of Lawton, Oklahoma; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Baker; her parents; and her sister, Karen Winfield.

Memorial service for Norma Baker is at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the First Christian Church, 912 West Walnut Street, in Duncan, with the Rev. Arnold Nelson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Chisholm Trail Hospice, P.O. Box 2000, Duncan, Oklahoma 73534.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at: www.GranthamFuneralHomes.com.
