Eugene "Gene" Baker, 79, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, peacefully in his sleep at his home after a long illness. Born Aug. 19, 1934, in Enid, Okla., he was the son of the late Earl Fisher Baker and Wilmoth Bell (Harris) Baker. Gene retired from Halliburton in 1993, after 37 distinguished years, where he was the manager of tools, research and engineering. As an accomplished engineer, Gene provided Halliburton with countless patents and extraordinary achievements. In his spare time, he also enjoyed traveling with his family, fly fishing, trailblazing in a jeep over the mountain passes of Colorado and hiking.
Gene graduated from Enid High School and then continued his education to receive a bachelor of mechanical engineering degree from Oklahoma State University in 1957.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Norma Jean (Thompson ) Baker; along with two children, Mark Baker and wife Jean of Dallas, Texas, and Sherri (Baker) Wilson and wife Rachel, Daniel Baker, Laura Wilson and Robert Wilson, all in the Dallas-Fort Worth area; two siblings, Marvin Baker of San Miguel Alliende, Mexico, and Ruth Ann (Baker) Bowyer and husband Jim of St. Paul, Minn.; and many other loving nieces, nephews and relatives.
Memorial service for Gene Baker will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at First Christian Church, Duncan, Okla., on 912 West Walnut Street, with Rev. Arnold Nelson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Chisholm Trail Hospice.
