Dr. Danial Ray Baker, Ed. D., Ph.D

Dr. Danial Ray Baker
May 5, 1949 ~ April 22, 2020

Dr. Danial Ray Baker, Ed. D., Ph.D. of Ponca City, Oklahoma went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

Born May 05, 1949 to Robert and Gertrude Wilkie Baker in Fort Bragg, California.

While attending Seminary, Dr. Baker received his draft notice and enlisted as an Airman in the United States Air Force in July of 1967. Following three tours in Vietnam, Dr. Baker continued his military service with distinction and honor as a Security Police officer until his retirement in November of 1988 at the rank of Captain. In 2002, he was recalled to active duty to assist with the structuring and education of the newly formed US Homeland Security Department. Dr. Baker would return to the ministry pastoring churches in Oklahoma. Of all the things he accomplished in his life, he would say that he loved preaching and teaching, telling people about Jesus, and giving away Bibles the most.

After earning his bachelor’s degree from Culver Stockton College, Dr. Baker attended Officer Candidate school in 1976 and received his commission to Lieutenant. Continuing with his education, Dr. Baker would go on to earn a master’s degree in Human Relations from Webster University and his Ed.D. in Occupational and Adult Education from Oklahoma State University. Finally, he would return to Seminary where he received his Ph.D. in Pastoral Theology from Andersonville Baptist Seminary.

His many hobbies included rebuilding old cars, camping and fishing, as well as stamp and coin collecting. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Ellenor Baker, children, Daniel Lee Baker and wife Tracie, Amanda Louise Wylie and husband Jamey, stepson Aaron Michaud and wife Jodie, bonus daughter Traci Reece and husband Robert, sister Helen Ricard, eight grandchildren, countless bonus grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, former spouse, Brenda Louise Baker, granddaughter, Hannah Baker, and sister Cathy Havens Severson.

The family would ask that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Harmony Baptist Church P. O. Box 1832, Ponca City, OK 74602 so that his Bible ministry may continue.

Interment is pending at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Winfield. A Homecoming Celebration Honoring Dr. Baker’s life will be held at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Ponca City with Pastor Jamey Wylie officiating at a later date.
