Caroline Sue (Castoe) Baker

February 27, 1940 ~ March 28, 2013

Caroline Sue Baker, 73, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 in Rowlett, Texas.

A celebration of Caroline's life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Northside Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. in Bonham, Texas.

Caroline was born to Charles and Virginia (Noel) Castoe in Enid, Oklahoma on February 27, 1940. She graduated high school in 1958 in Tulsa, OK. She then attended University of Tulsa from 1958-1959. Caroline then met and married Harold Baker on January 28, 1960 in Durant, Oklahoma. They subsequently raised four children together.

Caroline worked for Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs, TX from 1975-1994. She began working as a janitor, but went back to college in 1987 and received a degree in medical transcription in 1989. She then worked for Hopkins County Memorial and Presbyterian Hospital as a medical transcriptionist from 1989-2001 when she retired.

She was an avid word puzzle solver, a lover of music by Julio Iglesias, a collector of pins, tea cups, hummingbirds and Pomeranians. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, who called her Nannie, teaching them early on that hard work such as picking vegetables from their garden and pine cones from the front yard were rewarded with nickels. And she was always up for a good road trip.

Caroline is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Virginia; her husband Harold and her brother Charles Castoe.

Those left to celebrate Caroline's life include her sons, Chris Baker and his wife Ginny of Ivanhoe, TX, Matthew Baker of Gilmer, TX and Dale Baker and his wife Brandi of Rowlett, TX; daughter, Melody Phillips of Jewett, TX; grandchildren, Kristie Tom and her husband Jeremy of College Station, TX, Chad Yost and his wife Lindsey of Lubbock, TX, Jake Baker of Ivanhoe, TX, Audrey Baker of Aurora, Colorado, Connor Baker of Rowlett, TX and Jocelin Robinson of Rowlett, TX; great-grandchildren Benjamin and Bailey Yost of Lubbock, TX; as well as numerous friends and neighbors.
