April Lashell (Alberty) Baker

April Lashell (Alberty) Baker
November 29, 1956 ~ April 27, 2018

April LaShell Alberty-Baker was born in Bartlesville Oklahoma on November 29, 1956. April was born to Arlena Patterson-Alberty and Sherman Alberty. She was the eldest of five. April began her formal education in Bartlesville Oklahoma at Douglass Elementary School. At the tender age of 9 years old, upon the loss of her father, her mother moved the family to Wichita Kansas where April would complete her education.

April attended Ingalls Elementary, Jardine Jr. High and Wichita West High School where she graduated in May of 1975. In her early twenties, April married her high school sweet heart, Decson Dunigan. To this union was born one son, DeAndre Dunigan. While yet in her twenties, April became a widow. In her effort to make a better life, to fortify her family and to follow her passion to care for people with medical challenges, April began her pursuit to become a nurse at Butler County Community College. She graduated and received her Associates Degree in Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1984.

April was later remarried. She had three additional children: Kortney- her one and only- daughter, Charles, better known as (M.J), and Tevin. April also had two step sons who were very dear to her, Kenny Ray and Eugene Baker Jr..

Aspiring to work with elderly patients, April committed herself to Elderly Care Home facilities. Most of her Nursing Professional career entailed her services at the Hillhaven Nursing Center and the College Hill Nursing & Rehab Center in Wichita Kansas. April chose to care for the 'Loved Ones' who had grown old, many of which were forgotten and were in need of continuous care. She communicated between patients, family members and doctors. She administered medicine, supervised nurses' aide and gave tender loving care to the elderly people whom she serviced.

In 2016, after retiring from the Nursing Profession, April relocated back to her roots- Bartlesville Oklahoma to be closer to her Mother and Step Father. There, she remained until her appointed time on April –her name sake- 27, 2018. April was greatly loved and respected by friends, co-workers, and family members. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of meeting and knowing her.

April was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Baker; her father, Sherman Alberty and her Grandparents: Prince Lee and Willie Mae Patterson and Moses and Leona Alberty.
