Jackie Baird, 89 year old Woodward resident, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at her home south of Woodward. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Gordon Lawson officiating. A private family burial will be held.
Erma Jacquelyn Russell was born on February 6, 1924 at their home in Mutual, Oklahoma to Lilly Irene (Gose) and Nicholas Oliver Russell. She was six years old when her brother Lee was born. As a child she was raised around Sharon. She loved the outdoors, helped with the farm work and daydreamed. Jackie graduated from Sharon High School in 1942.
She was united in marriage to Ralph E. Baird Jr. on August 1, 1942. Jr. enlisted in the United States Army and from there their lives began. After the war and starting a family, Jackie took on the chore of milking a dairy herd for 21 years. She loved her family, she loved to sew, take photos or movie slides, she loved to shop, and later in her years she took up bowling on a league in Woodward.
She was a member of the 4-H Club, Sharon United Methodist Church, Pleasant Jewel Club, South Persimmon Club, Sharon United Methodist Women’s and was very involved with the 4H. Jackie was extremely active in all her clubs that she was a member in.
Jackie was certainly a pioneer lady blazing away. She learned to milk cows as a little girl and made a good living continuing after she was married. No one would deny that the milk herd was Jackie’s. After the dairy Jackie took up her sewing hobby for a living. She owned her own draperies business until she finally decided to retire. After retiring, Jackie and Junior spent some time traveling and seeing America and were even able to go to Poland where Junior was kept as a prisoner of war.
In May of 2001, Jackie was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. However it didn’t get the best of her until the last two years. She continued to amaze us with her ability to always come back. She was strong willed and stubborn, and we loved her for that.
Jackie is survived by her husband Jr. Baird of the home; their children, John Baird and wife Carol of Sharon, Gay Prior and husband J.P. of Alamos, Colorado, Lynn Tidmore and husband David of Locust Grove; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nick and Irene, her brother Lee, son Gordon, daughter Judy Brock, grandson Shane Tidmore, and great-grandson Destry Wayne Baird.
Jackie is now in the hands of the Lord and God almighty. May she rest in Peace!!
