On March 24, 2017, Mavis Marie (Keeney) Bacon closed her eyes and saw her God at 5:52am in the Jane Phillips Medical Center, Bartlesville, OK.
Mavis was born in Haskell, Ok on September 1, 1919 to parents Glenn Keeney and Virginia Mathews Keeney. She graduated from Boynton High School, then attended OSU. Following her marriage to David Charles Bacon on September 10, 1940 in Stillwater, OK, they lived in Dallas, TX while Charles was in the training program for TEXACO. During World War II, they lived in Dallas, Cambridge, MA and San Diego, CA. Charles was called up to serve in the Korean Conflict and the family was stationed in Hawaii for 2 years.
Mavis worked at the Bureau of Mines from 1961 until her retirement in 1979, at which time the family moved to the Texas Valley. In 1982, they moved back to Pawhuska. In 2001, Mavis settled at the Tallgrass Estates in Bartlesville. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Pawhuska, CWF, Red Hat Society, PEO and the Disciples Christian Church, Bartlesville.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 1991 and is survived by three children: Susan Hurt (Jay) of Dewey, David Bacon (Patsy) of Fort Smith, AR, and Bill Bacon (Paula) of Sapulpa; 6 grandchildren JJ Cantrell, Jarrett Hurt, Dru Bacon, Erica Baker, Blaine Bacon and Cody Bacon; 10 great grandchildren and numerous friends.
A life well lived doesn't end, it echoes through time in the ones left behind.
