Troy Mike Azlin was born May 4, 1941, in Seminole County, Oklahoma and departed this life Saturday, November 25, 2006, in Bakersfield. CA.
Troy moved to California in 1959, got married and went to work for Ed Green at Gary Drilling 1960 to 2000, working his way up to Senior Drilling and Bidding Superintendent in 1987. Gary Drilling sold in 2000 to Ensign USA Drilling and Troy was employed there at the time of his passing (47 years). Troy loved the oilfields, enjoyed his work, had fun in the job and worked with many great people who became lifelong friends.
Troy leaves behind his beloved wife, Donna Kaye; son, Mike and Andrea Azlin; daughter, Janice and Tommy Howard; and stepson, Corey Bowen of Bakersfield, CA; brothers, Jimmy and Ellen Azlin, Kenny and LeAnn Azlin; sister, Shirley and Richard Bennett of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Brian, Breanna, Cody, Tamara, Kent, LeAnne, Joseph, Johnny, Misty, Juliann, Gabriel, Robert and Kylie Ann; brothers-in-law, Paul and Cherie Bowen, Pat and Tammy Bowen; sister-in-law, Pam and Richard Brown; mother-in-law, Lucy Bowen; many nieces and nephews who thought the sun rose and set with their Uncle Troy.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lena Azlin; first wife, Bonnie Jane; and many uncles and aunts.
Have you ever looked at your crew and thought to yourself "I couldn't find a more colorful cast of characters if I called Central Casting in Hollywood," Well, Ensign already has its very own movie star, complete with Rig 509, "Five Easy Pieces" a movie filmed by Columbia Pictures starring Jack Nickelson and Karen Black in 1970. Rig 509 was drilling in Maricopa Flats and producers drove by the rig every day on their way to the Film Studio. They needed a drilling rig for their movie, they signed a contract with Gary Drilling & Tenneco to use the rig and crews. The crews all had to join the Screen Actors Guild and we all collected royalty checks every time "Five Easy Pieces" was shown, until the rights were sold to television. Troy played character Longcypher and was the tool pusher.
Chapel services will be held Monday, December 4th, 10:00 a.m., Hillcrest Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd. Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.
