Raymond Joe Atnip

Raymond Joe Atnip
September 5, 1934 ~ February 2, 2013

Raymond "Joe" Atnip, age 78, of Washington, passed away, Saturday, February 02, 2013, at the Norman Specialty Hospital. Joe was born September 5, 1934 in Noble, OK, the oldest of 3 sons born to Sidney Joseph Atnip and Dollie E. (Ellsworth) Atnip.

He was raised in the Lake Thunderbird area and attended Norman Schools. Joe joined the United States Navy and served his country proudly as an Aviation Mechanic during the Korean Conflict.

Joe met the love of his life; a young lady named Janet Faye Edwards. They fell in love and were married on January 7, 1959, in Gainesville, TX. They made their home in Lawton for nearly 12 years where Joe worked for the Lawton Police Department. They later settled in Washington in 1970, where together they raised their son, Joey and daughter, Carla. Joe began working for the Tyler & Simpson Wholesale Grocery in Norman and retired after 18 years of dedicated service. He then drove a truck for several years. Joe was a hard worker and good provider. He was a wonderful husband and father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and a good friend. He looked forward to working in his yard and never missed an opportunity to go fishing. He was a member of the 9th and Pierce Church of Christ in Purcell.

He was preceded in death by: His parents, Sidney and Dollie Atnip; His brother, Jerry Atnip and A nephew, Jay Atnip.

Joe leaves behind: His wife of 54 years, Janet; His son, Joey W. Atnip and wife Suzie of Moore; His daughter, Carla Atnip Johnson of Norman; His brother, Jim Atnip and wife Kat of Warsaw, MO; 3 grandchildren, Corey Atnip, Daci Perez and Stephanie Wills; 3 great grandchildren, Sutton, Cooper and Samuel and A host of other family and friends.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at the Wilson-Little Chapel. Arrangements by Wilson-Little of Purcell.
