Janet Atnip age 86 of Washington, passed away on October 2, 2023 in Oklahoma City. Janet Faye Edwards was born in Konawa, OK to Nathan Edwards and Mildred Edwards (Lowry) on September 25, 1937. She was raised in Konawa, attended school there, and graduated with the Tigers class of 1955. Janet attended USAO in Chickasha, OK for a time before she began working at Griffin Memorial Hospital.
She soon met a young man named Joe Atnip at work and they fell in love. They were married on January 7, 1959 and soon after welcomed their children into their family. Once she became a mother, Janet devoted all her time to being caregiver, preparing homecooked meals and keeping a tidy house for her family. Janet loved music and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. She also enjoyed reading, word searches, and crosswords in her spare time. Janet was a wealth of motherly advice, her daughters found comfort in her wisdom and solace in her go to phrase, “God will handle it if you let him.” Janet was a woman of strong faith who loved her family and her Savior, she was also a long-time member of the 9th and Pierce Church of Christ in Purcell. She was a loving mother, sister, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents Nathan Roosevelt Edwards and Mildred Lorene Edwards, her husband Joe Atnip, her son Joey Atnip, and her sister JoAnn McClard.
She is survived by her daughter Carla Gabriel of Oklahoma City, Daughter in law Susie Atnip of Moore, sister Jean Edwards of Norman, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her church family.
