John Mercer Atkins, 82, of Bethany, formerly of Blanchard, died Monday, December 30, 2019, at his home. The son of Albert Lewis Atkins and Mayfair Beatrice (Mercer) Atkins, he was born July 13, 1937 in Seattle, Washington.
John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and worked for many years as an electrician. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Barbara Green and Sandy Genovese; his former wife, Mary Atkins; and one nephew, Scott Genovese.
John is survived by one daughter, Cindy Poe and her husband, Ronnie, of Dibble; one son, Bob Atkins and his wife, Gayla, of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Jonathan Atkins of Oklahoma City, Hanna Carter and her husband, Brandon, of Oklahoma City, Trinity Atkins of Oklahoma City, Jayden Atkins of Oklahoma City, Michael Poe and his wife, Sara, of Blanchard, Stephen Poe and his fiancée, Tonya Miller, of Cushing, and Bethanie Chaney and her husband, Jacob, of Chickasha; one great grandson, Tyler Poe of Blanchard; several nieces and nephews; and many other loved ones and friends.
The family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 11, 2020, at the Dibble Free Will Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard. Online obituary and guestbook are available at www.eisenhourfh.com.
