Oliver H. Atchley, 78, 1710 S. Hayes, died Friday morning in a local hospital. His funeral will will be at 2 PM Monday in the Murray – Ruggles Funeral Home in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, with burial in the Atchley Cemetery at Dalark, Arkansas.
The casket will be open at the Ladusau–Evans Funeral Home until 10 PM Saturday.
Atchley was born June 27, 1904, at Dalark. He graduated from Hinderson State University in Arkadelphia. He and Merle Martin were married June 14, 1928, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They made their home in Dalark where he owned and operated a grocery store, a sawmill and a cotton gin.
Atchley was a member of the State of Arkansas House of Representatives for six years. In 1952, the Atchley's moved to Homerville, Georgia, where he continued to operate the sawmill. He was later employed by the Union Timber Corp.
After retiring in 1968, they moved to Enid. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife Merle of the home; four sons, Jim Atchley, Bismarck, Arkansas, Joe Atchley, Enid, Jerry Atchley, Laramie, Wyoming, and Jon Atchley, McRae, Georgia; 10 grandchildren and a great – granddaughter.
