Sydney Rae Askrens, 59, of Dewey, gained her heavenly reward on Sunday, May 31, 2026, in Tulsa.
Sydney was born August 1, 1966, in Fredonia, Kansas, to Harold Dean and Leota Faye (Doane) Finkenbinder. She graduated from Bartlesville’s College High School in 1985.
A very close family friend, Jeanie Zirjawi, introduced her to Randall Allan Askrens, and the couple married in April 1985. Sydney was a homemaker and stayed home while their children were young, but in 1998 she joined the workforce and found a job she truly loved at Forrest Manor Nursing Home in Dewey. Caring for people was her passion and she loved the residents there. She stopped working there in December 2025 due to illness.
Sydney attended Dewey First Christian Church and in during her years as a housewife, she donated her time as a church volunteer.
She adored her grandchildren and they were her world. She liked cooking, baking and especially enjoyed taking long drives with Brandon Thompson, her life partner. They loved taking road trips and mini vacations, including to National Falls State Park and Arkansas. They even had fun times traveling the roundabout near Hillcrest Country Club. Sydney liked all kinds of music, from country, to ‘80s, ‘90s, and disco. She was a weather watcher.
Sydney loved birds and had a special sparrow and cardinal she watched through the window. She kept them fed and coming back to visit. Her favorite flowers were sunflowers.
She was willing to help anybody and was a giving, understanding person. She was an exceptionally good listener. Her family and friends will miss her dearly.
Survivors include her life partner, Brandon Thompson; her father, Harold Finkenbinder and his wife Cheryl; her two children, Jasmine Askrens and her fiancé D’marcus Johnson, and Allan Askrens and his fiancé Alyssa Bell; three stepchildren, Skyler Thompson, Michael Thompson, and Michelle Pacola; siblings, Lawrence Finkenbinder, Phillip Fitzsimmons, Marsha Wheat, Renae Barnett, Daniel Fitzsimmons, Tim Fitzsimmons, and Steve Howell; six grandchildren, Jaslyn, Jordan, Juliana, Jayden, Adelynn, and Audrey; and several special nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Randall Allan Askrens; her mother, Leota Fitzsimmons; and brother, Brian Howell.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Dewey First Christian Church with Pastor Casey Parham officiating.
