Larry R. Armstrong, 76, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away on April 29, 2026. A man of immense heart, sharp wit, and unwavering loyalty, Larry left an indelible mark on everyone lucky enough to receive one of his amazing hugs.
Larry grew up on the family farm between Elk City and Hammon, and his roots remained firmly planted in the soil of Western Oklahoma long after he left the tractor behind. His career in the oil field eventually took him far beyond the family farm, traveling to "exotic" places from the plains of Wyoming to the landscapes of Colombia.
Known for his sense of humor and deep appreciation for a good story and good food, Larry cherished the time spent with his family and friends. Whether exploring new local restaurants with Geri or cutting up with his best friend, T-Rex, he made sure those around him felt his warmth and companionship.
This kindness extended to every living thing, a reflection of a quiet, steady faith and deep love for God. Larry found peace in nature as an avid birdwatcher and devoted caretaker to the wildlife in his yard, including the deer "Cookie" and her twins, ducks Fred and Ethel, and a rotating cast of birds, opossums, and turkeys. However, he drew a firm line at feeding the neighborhood raccoons, no matter how cute they were. He carried the lessons of the farm into his own garden, where he had legendary finesse with tomato plants.
Above all, Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and partner-in-crime. He and his beloved wife, Geri, shared over 55 years of marriage. Their journey of friendship and devotion served as the anchor of their family. He took immense pride in his only son, Chris, and his grandchildren, and was happiest when he knew his people were taken care of. Larry was a joy to be around, and he made sure the people he loved never wondered how much they meant to him.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Geri; his son, Chris and wife Tomara; his grandchildren, Stormy, Gabe, and Brynn ("Grasshopper"); his brother, Tim Armstrong and his family; his sister, Janice Walters and her family; and many other cherished relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Lillard, and his granddaughter, Abby.
In accordance with Larry’s wishes, the family will hold a private ceremony at a later date to celebrate his life and legacy. While he will be deeply missed, Larry's spirit lives on in the gardens he tended, the wildlife he fed, and the family he loved so fiercely.
