J Alan Ames

J Alan Ames
January 14, 1930 ~ September 4, 2023

J Alan Ames, 93 of Mooreland, Ok, went on to his eternal heavenly home on September 4, 2023. Words are not enough to honor him, but many knew Bud as a diligent follower of Christ, loyal and loving Husband, providing father, new loving elderly Dad, proud Poppa, caring friend, brother, son, uncle, hard worker, fun card player and much more. Memorial services are being held at 11:00am, on September 9, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Mooreland, OK.

Bud was born January 14, 1930 to Frank Burton Ames and Bernice Marie (Nelson) Ames in Mooreland, OK at the Ames Family home place, north of Mooreland. He was raised in Mooreland, attending school there, was an active member of Mooreland First Baptist Church. He had great memories of playing basketball, raising hogs, and farming. After graduating HS in 1948, he went to college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Ok, on a basketball scholarship. He returned to the Mooreland area to assist his father on their farm and ranch. He also worked for local farm and ranchers, having great memories working for the Lintners and others. He also enjoyed playing softball as well as referee for many sports. He worked for a period of time for the Santa Fe railroad before taking a job with Western Farmers Electric Co-op as an operator, working his way up at the Mooreland Site to Operations Superintendent before retiring in 1993 with 33 years of service.

Bud wed Barbara Craig Bryant on April 15, 1960 at Crown Heights Baptist Church, Woodward, Ok. He had the honor of adopting Lloyd Ernest Bryant, age 5 at that time. Later adding another son, Lance Alan in 1965 and a daughter LaNae Marie in 1967. He was thrilled as each grandchild was added to the family. Bud was very good with babies and toddlers! Great grandchildren were additional joys to him.

Bud loved being around people of the community and church. If the doors were open at the church he was there serving. He was very involved as a deacon, serving in missions and ministries, serving the nursery, men's ministries, prison ministry at Ft Supply, Step by Step church seniors ministry, and BYKOTA an associational seniors group. In his second round of life, the last three years at The Mooreland Heritage Manor Nursing Home ministering to other residents there with him.

He very much enjoyed cutting horse shows, rodeos and being involved in the Woodward Cattleman's Association, anything with horses. He thoroughly enjoyed having horses and foals of his own, along with cattle. He was very involved in the county with tracking and stopping cattle rustling. Being outside was something he always enjoyed. Farming wheat and baling alfalfa, calving and working cattle and just fiddling were some of the things he enjoyed. One of his favorites was building fence, that man knew his fences and how to build a proper one. Bud was always up for a game of cards, especially pitch! In his later years he enjoyed his pond making it better and better for fishing, zip lining and swinging for family to enjoy. Even at The Manor he enjoyed helping create a space that was inviting for the residents to sit outside and enjoy the sun, breeze, trees, birds and squirrels. He enjoyed his quiet times with The Lord on the patio and loved that others could as well.

His second round of life at 90, he became more appreciative, caring, expressing his love in an amazing enduring way, especially with his family. He never stopped working out his salvation in Christ, by continuing to grow. As he would say, got to "Keep on Keepin' On!" until God calls me home.

His siblings and in law siblings; Eileen and Lyle Moynihan, Loren and Viva Ames, Max and LaNita Bridgeman, Doug Ames, Ernie and Dottie Craig , Phil and Bobbi Craig. Many beloved cousins.
