Hennessey – The funeral for Louis "Lou" Amaya, 77, will be 10:30 AM Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jon Wilson officiating. Cremation will follow at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Cordry – Sisson Funeral Home.
He was born August 2, 1921, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Dolores and Josephine Ballejos Amaya and died Wednesday, April 14, 1999, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.
He married Pat Whitlock August 29, 1948, in Kaw City. He was a professor of foreign languages at Phillips University. He started the Phillips Phillies girls basketball program and coached until 1975. He had lived in Hennessey since 1971.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, of the home; three daughters, Patti Schlatter of West Lafayette, Indiana, Nita Field of Carmel, Indiana, and Lisa Quirk of Hennessey; one son, Dana Amaya of Edmond; three brothers, Jim Amaya of Pueblo, Julian Amaya of Vancouver, Washington, and John Amaya of Holland, Michigan; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Memorials may be made to Central Indiana Chapter of the Autism Society of America in care of the funeral home.
