Ramona Alley, 60 year old resident of Daytona Beach, Florida formerly of Laverne died February 28, 2014 in Florida. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 am in the First United Methodist Church of Woodward. Family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 am until 11:00 am the morning of the service. Service arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
Ramona Earlene Alley was born on December 15, 1953 in Woodward, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of Robert Earl “Toby” and Gladys Earlene (Bland) Alley. Ramona was reared on a ranch south of Laverne where she had a happy childhood, playing in Clear Creek with her brother, sister and cousins. She also spent time going to Sunday School parties, church and water skiing at the lake. Ramona learned the value of hard work rounding up and working cattle and hauling hay. She graduated from Laverne High School in 1972. While in school she played basketball and had many friends.
Ramona and Wayne Girard Gilkeson were married in the United Methodist Church at Perry, Oklahoma on June 14, 1975. They became parents of a daughter and son. They later divorced but remained close friends. She received an Associates Degree in Nursing in 1974 and later obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing as well as Health Care Administration. Ramona moved to Florida and worked as a nurse for over thirty years. While working for Humana Health Care in Florida, she and a co-worker were commissioned to write the guidelines for workers compensation for the state of Florida, which is still in use today.
Ramona was a very dedicated nurse, showing compassion and love to each patient. Due to health issues she retired from nursing in 2008. Still eager for knowledge she took gourmet cooking and art classes. She was an avid sky diver making over 200 jumps. She had a passion for cats, dogs and flamingos. Ramona put many miles on her Harley Davidson motorcycle.
She was a member of the Woodward Chapter of DAR as well as many organizations in Florida.
Ramona is survived by two children, Kathrine Earlene Mitchell and husband Daniel of Sydney, Australia; Toby John Wayne and wife Katlyn of Daytona Beach, FL; best friend, Wayne Gilkeson of Garden City, KS; mother, Earlene Alley of Woodward; brother, Link Alley and wife Linda of Woodward; sister, Julie Mann and husband Roy of Perryton, TX; five nieces; five nephews; other family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Toby Alley; and nephew, Aaron Alley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Aaron Alley Scholarship Fund or to the WOOF Pet Rescue with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
