 June, 1911 ~ November 10, 2005

Vashti Abana Young Holt Allen died 10 November 2005 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was born in Cheyenne, Oklahoma in June, 1911, the daughter of Andrew Clyde Young and Della Cann Young.

Vashti attended school in the area, often in a school where her Mother was teaching. At seventeen, Vashti moved to Stillwater to attend Oklahoma A & M, now Oklahoma State University. In 1932 she withdrew from school to take a job in Oklahoma City as a court reporter for the Oklahoma State House of Representatives. The next year she took the job of court reporter for the Oklahoma State Senate.

Vashti married C. P. Holt in 1934 and moved to Bartlesville where Holt worked for Phillips Petroleum Company. They have three children born and raised in Bartlesville; Nancy Holt Austere of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, born 22 August 1935; William Howard Hold "Bill" of Malibu, California, born 10 May, 1938; and Richard Craig "Rick" of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, born 13 February 1941.

She has ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was married to James Herman Allen, who preceded her in death in 1982.

After her children were grown, Vashti lived in Tulsa for a few years where she worked for the Corps of Engineers and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at Tulsa University in 1964.

Following that she moved to southern California where she worked for the California State Professional Employment Office until her retirement. Upon retirement Vashti sailed with two friends, on a forty foot sail boat, in the South Pacific for a year.

She loved to travel and visited Mexico, made several trips to Canada to visit her son, to Europe and she spent a month in Japan with her daughter and friends.

Vashti and her sister, Frances Young Warrington Fisher attended the Old Settlers Reunion in April 1997. Frances rode on the float for former queens in the parade. Her brother Clyde Young Jr. resides in southern California.
