Dr. Thomas J. Allen, Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret), age 83, died peacefully with family , in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. T. J. Allen was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and decorated veteran, born in Verden, OK to Eunice H. and Henry L Allen 8 May, 1925.
In World War II, his heroism on Iowa Jima with the 1st BN, HQ Co, 26th Marines was distinguished by medals such as the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He served as Superintendent in Oklahoma schools systems for more than 30 years with excellence recognized by education honoraries such as Phi Delta Kappa.
Dr. Allen is survived by his sister, Emily Gardner and her husband Dr. John Gardner of Edmond his son, Thomas T. Allen and his wife Marilyn of Tulsa Mary Lou Dickson of Oklahoma City, Martha Allen of Tucson, Betty Allen of Virginia Beach his daughter, Cynthia Allen Abbott, COL, US Army (Ret) and grandchildren, Michael and Caroline Abbott of San Antonio.
Graveside service with be held Monday, February, 23, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
