Services for Maida LaVern Dalton Allen, 93, of Wheeler, Texas were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 12, in the First Baptist Church in Mobeetie, Texas with the Rev. Gary May officiating and the Rev. Don McElroy assisting. Interment followed in Mobeetie Cemetery.
Born March 26, 1916, in Thackerville, the daughter of W.O. And Eliza Francis Dalton, she died Tuesday, March 9, 2010.
In Love County, Maida met and married a fiddle-playing man and on December 26, 1936, she became soulmate, cherished lifelong companion, and loving and faithful wife to John E. Jake Allen.
She was a proud, strong, steadfast friend and sister to Delbert Dalton, Dean Dalton and Genevieve Dalton Carouthers.
Beloved Momma, loving, principled, passionate supporter and lifeblood of her children, Jack E. Allen, Patricia Allen Renzelman, Helen V. Allen Seitz, Ada Lou Allen Lester, John L. Allen and Lizanne Allen Shugart.
Kind, adoring advisor, dearly loved caregiver and honored Maw-Maw to her grandchildren, Jan Seitz Mayo, Jeff Seitz, James Allen Lester, Carol Lester Miller, Shannon Allen Jochetz, John Eric Allen, Bill Allen and Ross Allen.
She was playmate, cheerleader, devoted Maw-Maw to 25 great-grandchildren. Beloved aunt to countless nieces and nephews, and adopted Maw-Maw for those who just needed a grandmothers love. Faithful, strong and generous friend to many.
A unique personality, an unerring judge of character, avid reader, relentless pursuer of knowledge, a lover of animals and collector of strays, always there to reach out a helping hand, or to offer a hug or a smile.
At her passing, a cloud passed across the face of the sun. Out on her beloved Wheeler County farm, the coyotes song will become more mournful, and the sun and stars will shine less brightly. Those left behind to mourn her loss know that Jake Allen waits for her at Heavens Gate, fiddle in hand, playing her favorite tune as her bright and free spirit dances across the blue Texas sky to meet him. She will be missed.
This obituary included a picture of Mrs. Allen.
