Barbara Jeanne Allen
1923 ~ May 8, 2013,

Barbara Jeanne Allen, 89, of Norman, Oklahoma, was the daughter of Ronald S. and Mida Allen. She was born in 1923, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Norman, Oklahoma at the Rivermont Retirement Community. She was a 1941 graduate of Okay High School, Okay, Oklahoma. After graduation from high school, Barbara attended Northeastern State College, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

During World War II, she worked at Camp Gruber near Muskogee, Oklahoma, where she met and married Captain Noel Briley.

Barbara retired in 1987, after 15 years of service with the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. She was the manager of the Stillwater office during the last ten years of her service with the Commission. She fondly remembered the many people for whom she found jobs during her tenure there. After her retirement, she became an avid world traveler.

She grew up on a farm and developed a sense of responsibility and a strong work ethic. She was known for her creative abilities and generosity -her gift wrapping was a work of art! She always expressed a great caring spirit for family and friends alike. She was very proud that she had raised three sons, all of whom graduated from college, in spite of the early death of her husband.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents, her husband Noel in 1957, two sisters—Elizabeth Ward and Mary Jo Pernia—and two brothers—Ronald S. Allen, Jr. and Charles N. Allen.

She is survived by three sisters - Alice Schuermann, Lorna Wiggins, and Marion Ward; three sons - Noel, Joseph, and Patrick; six grandchildren - Sharon Richey, Shannon Hare, Alexis Briley, Christopher Briley, David Briley, Rebecca Wright; three great grandchildren - Marla Jo Richey, Savannah Hare, and Emma Wright; and many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with her wishes, her burial will be with her late husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC.
