John T. Alf
December 26, 1922 ~ March 3, 2016

John T. Alf, age 93, and longtime resident of Bartlesville, passed away in St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday, March 3, 2016.

John Tochle Alf was born on December 26, 1922 in Denver, Colorado. He was the son of Gustaf A. Alf and Nora H. (Tochle) Alf. He was raised in the Denver area where he received his education. He attended and graduated from the University of Colorado where he received his Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. He served in the Army in WWII.

John and Dixie Lee Hoffman were united in marriage on October 15, 1951 in Denver. Dixie moved to Bartlesville where John was already employed as a Chemical Engineer at Phillips Petroleum Company. John retired from Phillips after close to 40 years of loyal service.

John was a member of the Osage Hills Gem and Mineral Society and later became a member of the Tulsa Gem and Mineral Society. He considered himself an amateur paleontologist and enjoyed preparing fossils. He loved his rocks and his dog. He and Dixie continued their residence in retirement in Bartlesville. During this time, they enjoyed traveling extensively. Dixie preceded John in death in 2007.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Gerald A. Alf of Bartlesville; daughter, Bonnie Baxter and her husband, Charles, also of Bartlesville; and three grandchildren, Kirsten, Connor, and Cooper Baxter (all of Bartlesville). John was preceded in death not only by his wife, Dixie Lee, but also his parents, Gustaf and Nora; and one daughter, Karen Alf.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in John's memory to the Wilmer Eye Institute, Birdshot Research Fund, Wilmer Development Office, Wilmer 112, 600 N. Wolfe St., Baltimore, MD 21287-9015.
