Allen John Alexander

December 17, 1922 ~ March 23, 2005

Allen John Alexander was born in Stafford, Oklahoma on December 17, 1922. He died March 23, 2005 of heart failure in Norman, Oklahoma.

He married Shirley Conrad on October 16, 1943 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

Allen served in the US Army Air Force from January 29, 1943 until August 4, 1946. He entered the service as an aviation cadet and graduated as 2nd Lieutenant on April 14, 1944. Allen served in the South Pacific 13th Air Force, 403 Troop Carrier command, 13 squadron. He was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant.

He attended Southwestern State University in 1946 prior to his service in the Air Force. He graduated in 1947 with a B.S. degree, majoring in business.

He taught school at Hammon, Oklahoma High School for a year, from 1947-1948. He attended the University of Oklahoma from 1948 to 1949.

He received his Oklahoma CPA certificate in 1951 and had worked for Belt, Burns & Company, CPA's, Ponca City, Oklahoma from 1949 to 1951.

Allen began working for Conoco, Inc. June 1, 1951 until March 1, 1983. He had spent the last twenty two years with Conoco in New York in Stamford, Connecticut. He had been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants since 1952. He was named honorary member in 1992 for more than 40 years of membership. He was a member of the American Petroleum Institute, Joint Committee on Taxation from 1952 to 1983. He was chairman of the Joint Committee from 1971-1972.

Allen moved to Oklahoma City from Connecticut in 1983, then moved to Norman in 1986.

He was a member of the Goodrich Memorial United Church, United Methodist Men, Goodrich Chronologically Gifted and Adult Discussion Class.

Allen was preceded in death by his mother and father; his daughter, Cathy; and his brother Boyd.

He's survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley; his son, John and wife Nuan of Thailand; two daughters, Saren Murrey and husband Jim of Naperville, Illinois; and Ellen Alexander of Montclair, New Jersey; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at Goodrich United Methodist Church 200 West Hayes, Norman, Oklahoma, Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to the Goodrich United Methodist Church or the Salvation Army.
