Leonard James Alcon

Leonard James Alcon
January 26, 1956 ~ April 1, 2023

Leonard James Alcon, 67, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma following a long hard-fought battle due to medical complications after heart surgery.

Leonard was born on January 26, 1956, to Casimiro “Casey” and Emma Alcon (Lujan) in Del Norte, CO., and was raised in Durango, CO. After graduating from Durango High School in 1974, he went on to study chemistry at New Mexico State University.

In 1979, Leonard was watching a pastor preaching on TV and was led to Jesus. Excited about his new beginning with his Lord and Savior, he started to search for God by going to different churches. Leonard had a calling from God to become a preacher. During that same year he married the love of his life, Angelita “Angie” Alcon, and they were married for 44 wonderful years.

He moved to Oklahoma City in 1981 to attend Oklahoma Baptist College, where he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Theology in 1985. He worked his way through teaching at that same Bible College, while starting up the Spanish ministry for the Church affiliated with the Bible College. In 2012, he received his honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity. In 2015, he was called to start his own church, and founded Iglesia Bautista Independencia, in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Throughout his ministerial work he worked with many families and mentored many men of God to be pastors and fishers of men. He was a true servant of God who would go out of his way at any time to help anyone no matter what. His love for anyone in his life was unconditional and unwavering.

James was a loving father and grandfather who loved to do anything with his kids and grandchildren whether it be catching up on the phone, playing catch, or spraying his grandbabies off with the hose after they got covered in mud, because that’s what happens on Papa’s watch. Mostly, he loved to spend time with family no matter what it was. This was the same way he was with his church family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Casimiro “Casey” Alcon; his stepfather, James “Jim” Lujan; his brother, Michael Alcon; and his sister, Betty Gomez.

He is survived by his wife, Angelita “Angie” Alcon; sons, Jeremy Alcon, and Japheth “Jay” Alcon; daughters; Jamie Alcon, and Jessica Lopez; daughters-in-law, Carrie Alcon, and Tracie Alcon; grandchildren, Chad Alcon, Brady McMurtry, Izabella Alcon, Ryley Smith, Jordan Alcon, Caden Alcon, Callan Alcon, Angelina Bracher, Ivan Bracher, Ashlynn Bracher, Brian Lopez Jr., Jesse Lopez, Mireya Lopez, and Adrian Lopez; great-grandchildren, Braxton Alcon, and Braycen Alcon; mother, Emma Lujan; and siblings, Joseph Alcon, Gina Sandoval, Bernadette Alcon and Patrick Lujan.
