A memorial service will be held on January 15, 2005, 2:00 p.m., at Basham Funeral Chapel (3312 Niles St.) with Pastor Ken Armstrong officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the VFW. A celebration of his life will follow at the Stockdale Moose Lodge #2178.
Dwayne was born in Enid, Oklahoma February 1, 1946. He passed away at home Monday, December 20, 2004, due to a long battle with cancer.
Dwayne was a decorated Vietnam Veteran who served his country proudly. He was honorable discharged in September of 1973. He was a Conductor for Southern Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed tooling leather, building models, needlework, fishing, camping and gold prospecting. He also enjoyed his eagle memorabilia.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Geri; his son, Scott; his daughter, Kerri and husband, Mike Edwards; four grandchildren, Nathan, Tayler, Bryan and Rachael; his sister Marilyn and husband Warren Mohrhusen; nieces, Cheryl and Lisa of Morgan Hill, CA; his brother, Rick Akin; niece, Stephanie; great niece, Cora and nephew, Tim of Fresno, CA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie Jean and father, Henry Scott Akin.
