Born 1931 in Tipton, Oklahoma, James Adkins was the only child of Harry and Stella Adkins.
He graduated High School in Guymon, Oklahoma and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Panhandle State University.
He enlisted in the Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss. He taught the assembly and operation of the "Nike Ajax" missile.
James married Betty and started his family.
After the Army, James worked in the oil field industry changing location with his family every six weeks thru Texas, Kansas, Utah, Colorado, and Oklahoma. His family including his parents followed him to Alaska where his first four children were raised.
James became a member of the 302 Operating Engineers. His mechanical and operation of heavy equipment expertise was a needed commodity on the platforms of Cook Inlet, the North Slope, and numerous cities, villages, and camps of Alaska.
He was on the original exploration road with Tennessee Miller, to the oil fields in Prudhoe Bay Alaska.
James bought the farm in Paoli, when his parents retired. They wanted to return to where they grew up.
The oil industry took James to Libya with his off time in Greece. Then to Peru where he met and married Anna. They raised their only son in Paoli.
Throughout his life he worked between the oil, trucking, and construction industries. He was a "Jack of All Trades" and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix.
He is survived by his five children;
GUS ADKINS and his two children Jordan and Jaelynn of Paoli, Ok.
SCHELLON and Phil Stanley of Oklahoma City.
JOHN and Lisa Adkins of Moore, Ok., and their three children. Jason Adkins currently based at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, Tiffany and Terrel Erwin of Jenks, Ok.. Randi and Sean Salsberry of Moore, Ok..
JAMES ADKINS of Anchorage, AK. And his four children. Candace and Luis Elias of Kenai, AK., Jimmy and Becky Adkins , Justin and Basia Adkins, Charisse and David O'Donnell all of Anchorage.
RANEE and Ken Williamson of Naches WA. And their three children. David and Amanda Williamson of Naches, Amy and Dave Seaman of Benton City, WA., Brad and Eyvonne Williamson of Blaine, WA..
His first wife Betty Shermer of Modesto, CA. and his last wife Anna Adkins.
And last but not least a total of 16 Great Grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Paoli Pentecostal Church officiated by Rev. Terry Erwin.
Services for cremation were under the direction of Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home.
