Walter Eugene (Gene) Adams, departed this world on October 9, 2017, at age 92 years, 4 months, and 18 days. He was born May 22, 1925 in Welda, Kansas to Walter W. and Blanche (Valk) Adams.
A resident of Cherryvale, KS for most of his life, he moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma in early 2017 with his wife, Phyllis. He worked for 20 years at Cherryvale Grain in Cherryvale, and then retired after more than 25 years of faithful service from Mercy Hospital in Independence, KS. He was an avid fisherman, just like his father. He also loved to garden and share the fruits of his labor with his many friends and relatives. He enjoyed building projects and woodworking, many of which remain and are treasured by various family members. Gene was a lifelong member of the Cherryvale Church of the Nazarene.
On May 30, 1947, he married Phyllis May Jones in Cherryvale, KS. A loving father and devoted husband, he is survived by his wife, Phyllis, in Stilwell, OK. Other survivors include three sons, Dale E. Adams (Terry) of Perryville, AR; Tom W. Adams (Debra) of Hakalau, HI; and Alan L. Adams (Irina) of Stilwell, OK; one daughter, Marla J. Wright of Olathe, KS; a sister, Martha Harris (Robert) of Coffeyville, KS, 7 grandchildren, Amy McCravey of Hot Springs, AR; Jared M. Adams (Heather) of Norman, OK; Heather Lowrey (Shawn) of Hot Springs, AR; Nate Adams (Vickie) of Richardson, TX; Jonathan and Victoria Adams of Perryville, AR; and Philip C. Adams of Stilwell, OK; and 6 great-grandchildren, Madison and Mason Schoonover of Hot Springs, AR; Carly, Kelsey, and Chandler Marrall of Perryville, AR; and Jae A. Adams of Richardson, TX. He was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dean Adams and Jim Adams, and a sister, Leora Wiles and two children, Joyce and Wesley Adams. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family.
Memorial services will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Wickham Funeral Home, Cherryvale, KS with Rev. Jerry Richards officiating. Internment to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, KS. Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home – Stilwell, OK
