John Selway Adams

John Selway Adams
September 14, 1934 ~ November 7, 2020

John Selway Adams stepped into the presence of his Savior on November 7, 2020. John passed away at home, surrounded by his family at the age of 86.

John was born on September 14, 1934 to Anna Basinger and Joseph Selway Adams at their home in Excelsior, Arkansas.

In 1956 John married Betty Virginia Jackson and together they had four children; Johnnie Ann Burgess and husband Gary of Lahoma, Oklahoma, William “Bill” Joseph Adams and partner Barbara of Lawton, Oklahoma, Diana Marie Swift and husband Ray of Lafayette, Louisiana, and James Robert “Jr.” Adams and wife Susan. The grandchildren to this marriage are: Anna Virginia Allen, Ashleigh Adams Kail and husband Robert, William Joseph “Joe” Adams II and wife Jackie, Hunter Ray Swift, Tyler James Swift, and Sheridan Marie Swift. His great grandchildren are Maya, Mi-sha, Evie, R.J. and Riley.

In 1973 John married Dee Ann Bandurraga and they made their home in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Because of this marriage, John was blessed with an amazing, loving, bonus family: step-mother and golfing buddy Gene Anderson, Cris Clothier of Cascade, Colorado, Tara Clothier of Guthrie and Shawnlei Breeding and husband Steve of Orlando, Florida. His grandchildren are Joshua Clothier, Jesse Knittle and husband Donnie, Jonas Clothier, Chelsea Clothier, and David Clothier and wife Taylor, and great grandchildren Eli, Malachi, Emma-Lee, and Aiden.

John began his career with State Farm Insurance in 1964 and served this company up until the time of his death. He was an agent in Denton, Texas, Enid, Oklahoma and Guthrie, Oklahoma.

John’s greatest legacy was that of his faith in Jesus Christ. John was the cornerstone of Christian faith for his entire family. Over the years, he led many to Christ by way of he and Dee’s ministry in Costa Rica, as well as living out his faith in everyday life. Heaven is richer and sweeter because of John’s homegoing. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Lakeview Baptist Church, 122 W. Seward Road, Guthrie with Pastor Chris Wilkerson officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.

Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at www.hayesfh.com.
