Elizabeth Rozella Adams, lovingly known as Rose, passed away peacefully on January 26th 2025 at the age of 96. She was born on October 17, 1928, in Slaton, TX, to Oscar C. Ray and Liller Mozella Ray. Rose graduated from Slaton High School in 1946 and worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone for ten years. On July 23, 1951, she married the love of her life, Melvin David Adams, in Slaton, TX. Together, they built a home in Durant, where she resided until moving to Fort Worth in 2022. A devoted mother and homemaker, Rose found joy in traveling, reading her Bibles, and cherishing time with her family. She was a longtime member of Abundant Life Temple, where she attended for over 60 years. Her faith was central to her life, and she found great fulfillment singing in the choir, volunteering in the library, and working in the church office—a role she continued until retiring at the remarkable age of 91. Rose pursued higher education later in life, earning her degree from Southeastern Oklahoma University in 1992 at the age of 64—an achievement that reflected her lifelong love of learning.
Rose is survived by her sons, Kelly Adams of Fort Worth, TX, and Dennis Adams of Durant, OK, as well as nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; her son, Melvin Steven Adams; her grandson, Melvin James Adams; and her granddaughter, Natalie Ruth Adams.
Rose’s unwavering faith, kindness, and dedication to her family will always be remembered. Her legacy of love and perseverance will continue to inspire those who knew her.
A service to celebrate her life will be held at Abundant Life Temple in Durant, Oklahoma on Saturday, February 15th at 11 AM, where family and friends will gather to honor the beautiful life she lived.
Services are under the direction of Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home, 121 North 5th Street, Durant, Oklahoma 74701. www.holmescoffeymurray.com
