Walter Moncure Acree, Jr., 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, June 28, 2017.
Walt, also known as Monty, Daddy, and PaPa, was born in Richmond, VA. He graduated from Farnham High School in 1942 where he excelled in 3 sports: football, baseball, and basketball. Walt was accepted to William and Mary where he was active in the Baptist Student Union.
Due to the outbreak of WWII, he was unable to complete graduation as he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served as a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber pilot and later had a successful 33-year career as a Piedmont Airlines pilot. When he retired to Panama City Beach, Florida, he gave many years of blessed service as a member of the Point Washington UMC.
Walt was predeceased by his parents, Mary Christine and Walter Moncure; one sister, Catherine Julian; and a son, David. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Grace (Jackie); one sister, Mary Maxwell Cumbia; 3 of his children, Walter (Skip) and Paula, Richard, Jo and Roger; and 4 grandchildren, Jaclyn and Cody, RenĂ¡ and Shawn, Mirka and Ana.
