Betty Acklin, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, in Cleo Springs, Oklahoma. Born on September 19, 1934, in Jefferson City, Missouri, she was the daughter of Walter and Helena. Betty led a life rich in love, laughter, and memorable experiences, cherishing every moment spent with family and friends.
A proud graduate of Boulder High School, Class of 1952, later that same year on August 19, 1952 she married Denzil Acklin. Betty's journey through life was marked by her devotion to her family and her wide array of hobbies. She found great joy in participating in Friends of Cleo meetings and relished the beauty of nature through camping and hiking in the mountains. Her love for gardening flourished as she dedicated many hours to tending her flowers and working meticulously in her yard, often ensuring piles were ready for the rest of the family to pick up.
Betty had a special fondness for holidays, with Thanksgiving holding a cherished place in her heart. She enjoyed baking, particularly during Christmas time, when she would delight in preparing cookies with her daughter Cheryl. Her Christmas village adorned her home each year, embodying the joy of the season. Additionally, Betty's talents extended to making caramel corn, which became a favorite among her family.
An enthusiastic bowler, Betty participated in leagues alongside her sister, traveling across the United States for various tournaments. Bowling remained a passion for her throughout her life, even enjoying it on the Wii as she embraced new technology.
One of the highlights in Betty's life was a memorable girls' trip to Deadwood, South Dakota, with her sister Martha and daughter, where they encountered unexpected fun at Sturgis, creating memories that would be cherished forever. Betty also indulged in her love for drama television and took great comfort in the companionship of her cats and dog.
She became a second mother to her niece Brenda Dawe when Brenda came to live with her while finishing high school. Her other nieces Connie Sluski and Debbie Boswell (Alphonso) have fond memories of coming to visit in Colorado and Betty being right in the middle of the silliness and fun.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Denzil Eugene Acklin, her parents Walter and Helena, and her sisters Martha Boswell and Roberta "Bobbie" Dawe.
She leaves behind a devoted family that includes her brothers, Robert Ayers and Larry Ayers (and his wife Joanie), her son Ron Acklin (and his companion Daphne), and her daughter Cheryl Valentiner (and her husband Michael). She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Jason, Leslie, Josh, Sara (and her husband Andrew), Lori, Brian, and her great-grandchildren Taylor (and his wife Taelor), Dustin, Austin, Liam, Mason, Michael, Amya, and Phoenix. Betty also takes with her the blessings of great-great-grandchildren Blaklei and Brody.
Betty Acklin's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return. Her legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering family values will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
