Carol Fay Ables, of Durant, passed away on September 30, 2024, in Sherman, Texas. Her journey began in the small town of Wetumka, where she was born on August 28, 1940, to parents Frank W. Turpin and Laura “Lorine” (Wilkins) Turpin. Her early years were filled with the simple joys of rural life, which laid the foundation for her lifelong love of cooking, gardening, and reading. Carol's love for flowers was evident in the vibrant blooms that she enjoyed nurturing, a reflection of the beauty she cultivated in her life and the lives of others.
In her professional life, Carol and her husband Ray were the proud owners of Ables BBQ in Antlers, Oklahoma, where she not only served up delicious meals but also dished out kindness and support to her patrons. Their restaurant became more than just a place to eat; it was a community hub where friendships were formed, and memories made. Carol's dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her family and her unwavering desire to give back to those around her. Her life was a testament to the power of giving, even when resources were scarce. Her warm spirit and nurturing soul touched the lives of many in her community.
Carol's legacy is carried on by her loving family, who will forever cherish her memory. She is survived by her daughters Debbie Atkinson of Norman, Oklahoma, Laura Taylor and husband Barry of Durant, Oklahoma, Becky Atkinson of Scottsdale, Arizona, and son Arron Muir and wife Kristal of Yukon, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren including Shonie Adams of Norman, Oklahoma, Ashley Tilschner, Randy Taylor of Durant, Oklahoma, Jeremiah Taylor of Durant, Oklahoma, David Chase Muir of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Seth Bomhoff of Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as her ten great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her beloved parents Frank and Lorine Turpin, her loving husband Ray Ables, and her son David L. Atkinson.
