Bonita Jean Lilburn Layton was born to Everett and Neva Lilburn on February 24, 1926. She went to her heavenly home on June 6, 2019.

She was born in Nowata, Oklahoma and lived most of her life in the Nowata area. She married Jesse James Layton on May 16, 1944 and worked with him on the horse racing circuit. They traveled to many states but always returned to Oklahoma. They eventually bought a homeplace near Alluwe, Oklahoma.

Bonnie and Jessie were known for having a large garden and for sharing it. Bonnie canned a variety of vegetables and fruits. She also grew flowers of every kind and some herbs. Bonnie was talented at crocheting and made many beautiful afghans. She also liked collecting rocks and polishing them with her rock tumbler. Her mind was sharp and she loved playing Scrabble, working crosswords (in ink), and completing jigsaw puzzles. At one time, she had a large doll collection and sewed unique outfits for her dolls.

In addition to all of this, Bonnie found the time to raise seven children. Her surviving children are daughter Bonnie and husband Doyle Conner of Bartlesville, son Jesse (Jay) Layton and wife Sue Ellen of Bartlesville, son Larry Layton of Oologah, son Ben Layton and wife Gail of Beggs, and daughter Mary (Beth) Manley of Nowata. Her surviving siblings are Ralph Lilburn, Rose Marie Smith, sister Nancy and husband Ron Summers, Jim Lilburn and wife Linda, sister Carol and husband Lewis Smith, and Mike Lilburn and wife Janie. Bonnie is survived by 20 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, 20 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and daughter-in-law, Kathy Layton.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband Jesse Layton; her parents, Everett and Neva Lilburn; her sons, James (Jim) Layton and Arthur (Art) Layton; her grandson, Darryl Conner; her granddaughters, Sherri Lubensky and Rebecca Layton; her great grandson, Nicholas Lubensky her brother Jack Lilburn; and her sister Kathryn (Katie) Link.
