Claude Leonard Davis, 87, of rural Nowata, died at 11 a.m.
Monday at the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center.
Mr. Davis was born in Bartlesville on February 15, 1922 the son of Matt C. and
Hazel L. (Hicks) Davis. He grew up northwest of Bartlesville and attended
country schools in the area and later received his high school diploma from
Pawhuska High School.
Mr. Davis entered the United States Army and served during World War II with the
First Calvary under General MacArthur in the Pacific Theatre.
Following his Honorable Discharge he returned to Oklahoma and settled at Avant.
He was married to Dora F. Hickinbotham at Barnsdall on May 22, 1946. They made
their home in Miami for two years until returning to Barnsdall to make their
home and he was self employed as a milk hauler to Meadow Gold, Carnation and
Glencliff.
In 1956 they moved to the Skiatook area to make their home and then moved to
Nowata in 1961 and started the Sleepy Valley Dairy which they operated until
1974. Mr. Davis was then active in farming until his retirement in 1979. In 2005
Mr. Davis entered the Veterans Center in Claremore due to his Alzheimer's
Disease. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nowata and the Nowata
VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Dora F. Davis of Nowata, three sons, Claude L. Davis
Jr., and wife, Linda, William Robert Davis and wife Kay, and Timothy Allen Davis
all of Nowata, three daughters, Linda Faye Rush and husband Lonnie, Peggy Lynn
Calvert and husband Joe, and Patsy Ann Knight and husband John all of Nowata,
one brother, Eugene Davis of Delaware, Oklahoma, two sisters, Blossom Perry of
Coffeyville, Kansas, Virginia Coltharp of Elgin, Kansas, 16 grandchildren and 40
great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers,
Robert Davis, Don Davis and Wilbert Davis, and one sister, Bonnie Davis.
Funeral services held Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Nowata with Rev.
Larry Delay, Rev. Todd Brock and Jeff McDermott officiating. Full military rites
were accorded by the James H. Teel American Legion Post #105 of Bartlesville and
private interment was under the direction of the Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home.
Memorial funds have been established and those who wish may send their
contributions to the Nowata First Baptist Church, 433 N. Mississippi, Nowata,
Oklahoma, 74048 or to the First Baptist Church of Talala, 203 S. Oak, Talala,
Oklahoma, 74080.
