Mr. Gary Dwayne Richardson, 72, longtime area resident and husband of Mrs. Mary (Thurman) Richardson, passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at the family residence in Copan.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on July 9, 2008 in the First Baptist Church of Copan. The Rev. Willard Lyons will be the officiant with Chaplain Roger Sheppard, of Cornerstone Hospice assisting. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Mt. Washington Cemetery at Lenapah, Okla. by the Arnold Moore - Dewey Funeral Home.
A memorial to the First Baptist Church of Copan has been established and those who wish may forward their gifts to the church at 108 N Gertrude, Copan, Okla. 74022.
An Oklahoma native, Gary Dwayne Richardson was born February 3, 1936 at Delaware, Nowata County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Ralph John Richardson and Opal Viola (Jordan) Richardson. Gary was reared and completed his education in the Delaware Public Schools and was graduated with the Senior Class of 1955 from the Delaware High School. He was employed by the Exploration Survey Co. and in 1958, he went to work for the Phillips Petroleum Co. In 1968 he was employed by the Eve Industrial Supply Co. in Bartlesville where he remained until his retirement in 1998. He was united in marriage to Mary Thurman on November 16, 1974 at Pawhuska. They established their home northeast of Copan in 1976 where they have remained living in retirement. Gary was also an employee of the Copan Public Schools as a bus driver until his health forced him to quit in 2007.
Mr. Richardson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Copan and served as Sunday School Director and assistant treasurer of the church. He had also served as the secretary-treasurer for the Washington County Rural Water District #5 of which he was recognized for 30 years of distinguished service in 2007.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Thurman Richardson of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Scott Richardson and Kristine of Dewey and Justin Lee Richardson and Michelle of Prague, Okla.; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Ray "Don" Richardson of Dewey, Ralph John Richardson, Jr. of Bartlesville and Byron Nelson Richardson of Mansville, Okla. He was preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Dwight Dale Richardson and a sister, Betty Richardson.

Mrs. Mary W. (Thurman) Richardson, 91, longtime Copan area resident, died at 10 A.M. on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at the Heritage Villa Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Friday, July 28, 2017 at the Copan Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Sheppard officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Washington Cemetery at Lenapah directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Mrs. Richardson was born at Murray, Kentucky on April 30, 1926. She grew up and received her education in the Murray, Kentucky area and then served with the Women’s Army Corps during World War II.She was married to Gary D. Richardson and they made their home at Copan for many years and Mr. Richardson preceded her in death.
She continued her home in the Copan area until her health limitations made it necessary for her move to assisted living facilities. She loved to garden and quilt and a was member of the Copan Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Mike Richardson of Dewey and Justin Richardson of Prague, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren, Mikayla Thomas, Meriah Richardson, Morgan Richardson, Christian Richardson, Aaron Richardson, Bethany Richardson and Jonathan Richardson and a great granddaughter, Luna Richardson. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and one brother.
