Virginia Nelsene Childress, 75, of Nowata, died Tuesday afternoon at the
Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Benjamin Funeral Chapel in Nowata.
Interment will be at Martin Cemetery in Twin Bridges community of Nowata
County under the direction of Benjamin Funeral Service.
Memorials are suggested to the 10-33 Emergency Team at 321 E. Cherokee,
Nowata, OK 74048.
Mrs. Childress was born Aug. 1, 1924 at Bartlesville to Vernon and
Maggie Marlin Remington. She moved to Nowata when she was very young and
attended Nowata schools. She married John Thomas Childress on Aug. 18,
1943 at Nowata. She lived in Nowata most of her life and was a
homemaker. Mrs. Childress attended the New Life Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a daughter and two sons-in-law, Debbie and Joe
Driskill of Nowata and Roger Moseley of Strang; a brother, Jerry Howard,
of Independence, Kan.; an uncle; seven grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas, on April 27,
1998; a daughter, Sharon Moseley; a brother, Jack Howard; and a sister,
Irene Tatum.
