The sun set for Viola W. Walker on April 4, 2018
at her home in San Antonio, Texas. The sun rose
for Viola on July 1, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri
to Frank and Mable Warfield. She was raised and
educated in Nowata, Oklahoma, and attended
Lincoln High School.
Viola met and married Willie H. Walker. To their
union were eight (8) children, Michael, Robert,
Deborah, Ivan, Sherry, Karen, Philip and Ireatha.
Viola worked at the Nowata General Hospital as a
Nurse as well as a Charter Nurse. She also
worked at the Osage Nursing Home and Hays House
until she moved to San Antonio, TX. She was a
faithful member of First Baptist Church, Nowata
singing in the choir while serving on the
missionary board and kitchen committee.
To many she was called "Auntie Vi". Her home
served as an open door and open arms as well as
a hot plate of food for everyone. She loved
children and the more the merrier.
She enjoyed B-I-N-G-O and if you ever went with
her to "work", you never missed a number, as she
not only played her cards but yours too! In her
earlier adult life she was on a bowling team in
Nowata and is there any relative who didn't have
a handcrafted crochet scarf or house shoes?? She
also made handcrafted items for many local
churches and organizations in the San Antonio
area.
She was preceded in death by her parents,
husband, Willie H. Walker; son Michael Walker;
Robert Walker; and daughter, Sherry Walker.
She leaves to mourn her passing, four children,
Deborah Vaughn (Troy), Arlington, Texas, Ivan
Walker, San Antonio, Texas, Karen Matthews
(Clarence), Atlanta, Georgia, Philip Walker,
Colorado Springs, Colorado and Ireatha Ford,
Colton, California; 16 grandchildren, 38 great
grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren,
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
