Jean Louise McCarty Wood, 96, (the energizer bunny) passed from this
life December 21, 2017 surrounded by family
Funeral services will be held 1pm Tuesday at Hillside Christian Church
in Nowata with Reverend Ben Killion and Pastor Van Longbons officiating.
Interment will be in the Ball Cemetery at Childers under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held at the Stumpff
Funeral Home Tuesday 9am - 11am. Casket escorts will include Jerry Wood,
Johnny Wood, Curt Wood, Josh Wood, Dustin Wood, Rick Harmon, Todd
Harmon, and Andy Harmon.
Mrs. Jean Wood was born November 18, 1921, in Sedan, KS to Mr. JC and
Grace Sutton McCarty. She graduated from Sedan High School in 1940. She
married Jim Wood March 10, 1943. She loved her life as a rancher's wife
while raising their four children. She was a homemaker who loved to cook
and sew for her family, as well as spending many hours driving a tractor
working the fields.
After the passing of her husband, she moved to Nowata where she was
actively involved in Hillside Christian Church. She worked for her
granddaughter and her husband in Talala recording cattle weights and
office work until the age of 92. She enjoyed life to the fullest. Jean
loved playing cards and games, and traveling with family and friends.
Music was a large part of her life. She played the saxophone in the high
school band, was an accomplished piano player and singer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Jim Wood.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Wood and his wife Jeannette of Pomona,
KS and Johnny Wood of Jones, OK; two daughters, Marcia Beland of Nowata,
and Dee Wood of Grove, OK; twelve grandchildren, twelve great
grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren. Our Nanny will be
greatly missed but will live in our hearts forever.
