Dorothy M. Rupp died peacefully in her home in Perry, Oklahoma on August 19, 2024, at ninety years of age.

Dorothy was born on October 10, 1933, in Blair, Texas to Myrtle Clara (Driggers) Perkins and Floyd Vernon Perkins. She was the oldest daughter of seven children.
 

Following graduation from Merkel High School as class valedictorian, Dorothy was employed by AT&T in Abilene, Texas as secretary to its manager for the northwest district of Texas. She married Robert Rupp on November 23, 1953, in Abilene, Texas. They attended country and western musical events at the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport during their courtship and early marriage.

Dorothy left employment in 1955 for the birth of their first child, Martha. Son Vernon, born in 1956, completed their family. Dorothy was fulfilled by her role of mother and housewife until her children were in college. She then clerked for a time in a ladies’ clothing store and subsequently for Ragsdale Hardware in Perry, Oklahoma. Robert and Dorothy purchased a building in Baird, Texas in which they operated an antique and collectible store in partnership with Dorothy’s sister, Mary Stevens, and Mary’s husband Jim. Dorothy managed and operated Plaza Corner Antiques for over fifteen years until her retirement and the sale of the business.
 

Dorothy was a member of the Church of Christ in Perry. She taught Sunday school and vacation bible school classes for many years. Dorothy was an assistant den mother for Vernon’s cub scout troop and an assistant leader for the Sparkling Blue Birds joined by Martha. When her children were in school, Dorothy drove carloads of children to football games, wrestling matches, cheerleading camps, and many summer camps.

Dorothy was a loving and busy wife and mother, supportive of her husband and children in all their activities and efforts. She was active in the vegetable garden she grew with her mother and father-in-law, preserving and canning enough vegetables and jams for multiple seasons. She was a skilled seamstress and took pleasure in sewing, knitting, and other crafts. Dorothy liked to read and facilitated a love of books in both her children on their multiple visits to the Carnegie Library in Perry.

When their children flew the nest, Robert and Dorothy traveled to events in Branson, Missouri. They toured in Alaska and Canada and had other international travel adventures including in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
 

Dorothy’s marriage to Robert endured for over seventy years, a testament of their mutual devotion, love, and respect.
 

Dorothy loved her large family, her husband and children, her grandchildren, her brothers and sisters and her nieces and nephews. In turn, Dorothy was greatly beloved by her family and friends.


Dorothy is survived by her husband Robert Rupp; daughter Martha Rupp Carter and husband Lewis Carter of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son Vernon Rupp and wife Vickie McDermott Rupp of Phoenix, Arizona; granddaughters Jacqueline Carter and Emma Carter both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her sister Mary Stevens of Clyde, Texas; her sister Peggy Deen and husband Gerald Deen of Houston, Texas; and sister-in-law Alice Kopp of Sumner, Oklahoma along with many nieces and nephews.


Preceding her in death were her grandson, Samuel Robert Carter; brothers Raymond Perkins and his wife Danny Perkins; John Wesley Perkins; Robert Wayne Perkins; and sister Carolyn Perkins Brockman Gutzke.


In memory of Dorothy, contributions to donors’ selected charitable enterprises may be made.

viewing will be held from 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 23, 2024 and 10 A.M. to service time on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Trout Funeral Home of Perry.
 

Services for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 3 P.M. at the Chapel of Trout Funeral Home of Perry, 1408 N. 7th St., Perry, Oklahoma 74601.

Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home of Perry, 1408 N 7th St, Perry, OK 73077.
